"I get the opportunity to share what I’m passionate about, whether it be that particular meal or that particular dish, or why I made something in a particular way. really what I am trying to do with all of this is to encourage people to cook for themselves at home, and think about what they’re eating."
As a child, Alisa DeMarco lived in a rural area where her family kept a small garden and got most of their other food from a co-op. Because of her upbringing, she’s always had an appreciation for fresh, local food. DeMarco found her passion for cooking in the midst of deciding whether or not to attend graduate school for anthropology. DeMarco then decided to go to culinary school. She later became a local foods coordinator at the Hendrick House in Urbana, and designed the rooftop garden there. Alisa has worked at Prairie Fruits Farm and Creamery in Champaign, running the breakfasts and dinners hosted at the farm and structuring her menus after the ingredients that are most in-season to ensure that the meals she cooks are always fresh and flavorful.
