"I try to help everybody in the community, and they love me for that, and that's who they call on: mostly me. A lot of people are thankful for what I do around here. Lot of time, I don't charge people for stuff, I just go and help them out. Can't resist my heart. That's it."
JD Smith was born and raised in Webb Mississippi, a small town about half an hour away from Clarksdale. He is the building and construction supervisor for Habitat building projects. He developed his passion for engineering and building in his early teens, and has worked in construction and carpentry his entire life. Smith learned his trade in West Tallahatchie School, and after being a freelance carpenter for some years, accepted an invitation to help work on Habitat houses. His job at Habitat is to teach new volunteers how to build homes, help everyone be safe with equipment, and generally supervise the building process.
